I love this article and if you have not read "the monk and the riddle" please please do so. It should have a great impact on you. I felt like I had become a mercenary CEO in a missionary CEO's clothing at my last startup. That's when I left. I was passionate about being passionate. Money is always a factor, but it's a common denominator. Create a company with value and customers that youre on a crusade for, and odds are money will come out of it.

The Monk and the Riddle by Randy Komisar I'd say it's a must read for any aspiring entrepreneur. It gives you a lot of perspective and a decent introductory exposure to the process.

"The Monk and the Riddle" by Randy Komisar

Book recommendation: The Monk and the Riddle by Randy Komisar. He's a partner at KPCB, but he warns against taking the "deferred life plan." I am loathe to call any Harvard Business School Press book "life changing" but this is one that does open your eyes. I met him in person when I graduated from college, and it really made me think about the entire make money then pursue creative things thing.

I'd also highly recommend The Monk and the Riddle - I don't think I've ever seen it suggested elsewhere, but I recommend it to everyone. I found PayPal Wars to be a bit dull, and the author a bit smug.

The first thing that came to mind was the funerals.com story in 'The Monk and The Riddle' ( http://www.businessweek.com/2000/00_25/b3686077.htm) I'm not implying this applies to you :) It sounds like you are sincerely passionate about the idea. I think it's a valid approach to realize there are companies out there doing this, they aren't popular, and it's probably because they aren't 'doing it right'. So if you think you know how to do it better, by all means do it! Good luck.
