Read on Hacker NewsDidn't we do this question just a week ago? searchyc.com returns this result: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=574468 I learned from Cederholm's Bulletproof Web Design and Meyer's Definitive Guide , by the way.
Read on Hacker NewsBulletproof Web Design is the only CSS book I have liked enough to buy so far. Hopefully, our peers have other suggestions. I would like to learn more.
Read on Hacker NewsDan Cederholm is a high-quality designer with great jumpstart material. Namely, his books "Bulletproof Web Design" ( http://www.simplebits.com/publications/bulletproof/ ), and "Web Standards Solutions" ( http://www.simplebits.com/publications/solutions/ ). If you can afford the time and expense, a one-day Carson Workshop from a CSS master can help a lot. This one is already past, but for example: http://carsonworkshops.com/design-dev/clarke/14May2008.html For off-the-web inspiration, study Edward Tufte ( http://www.edwardtufte.com ), architecture (for example, Christopher Alexander: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Alexander ), and cartography (peruse a great atlas like The Atlas of Oregon: http://geography.uoregon.edu/infographics/projects/atlasPrin... ).
Read on Hacker News… around MS's shit. And let me reiterate: Don't be afraid to Google for answers to problems, and to learn from how other pages have solved your problems. Oh, and one book you absolutely must read: Dan Cederholm's Bulletproof Web Design. You may or may not need to design your pages that way, but it will expand your mind as to how you can get things done.

Read on Hacker News…ing stereos out of the back of a car. Instructive because his key insights revolved around understanding what the average user wanted, as opposed to the technical elite. Softwar: An Intimate Portrait of Larry Ellison - He started his first company at 33 after working for other high tech firms. This book is neat because Ellison adds his own comments in the footer when he disagrees with the biographer. Founders @ Work - Pre-ordered it. I was tempted to read it all at once, but decided to spread it out over 2 weeks. I'm glad that I did - there's a lot to digest.... Product side: Designing Interactions - If you want to design great user experiences, it helps to see the thought processes great designers go through to create successful products. Bulletproof Web Design - Well written, concise. Cederholm knows CSS. Hardening Linux - I've seen man…
