Read on Hacker NewsFor the same reasons, if you want to understand why relationships are hard and what is really going on between people, The Mystery Method by Mystery - About half is a real down-to-the bits theory of love and attraction. The other half is advice about how to pick up dates at bars. I only wanted the first part, but both are fascinating. After reading this, it's like the veil was lifted and I could see the fnords. The Game by Neil Strauss - The story of field research into practical romance by a great writer and a peek at the author of the first book above. The author masters seductive romance and discovers that it is not the same as love. In the end, though, he needed the first to have a chance at the second. Read on Hacker News…me think, perhaps you should simply hang out on ChatRoulette for a while :-) (Haven't tried it myself). But seriously, I think just practice. I recently read one of the "The Game" books out of curiosity (about the pickup artists, I read "The Mystery Method"). Not sure if I like it, but one thing stood out: in their seminars, they make people go into night clubs and chat up at least 10 women per night (or was it even more, don't remember for sure). in other words, they simply practice a lot. I know this is not (just) about talking to women, but I think in general anxiety really can be overcome with practice. Take smaller steps, though - playing your music in front of an audience is comparatively huge. One thing I did is for a while ask a question at almost every conference/public talk I went to. I felt a difference very quickly.

Read on Hacker News… been diagnosed with AS by someone with lots of experience/publications in it, and I attended a group therapy thing for most a of a year weekly. My personal advice. Read How to Win Friends and Influence People , some pua books if you're interested in girls ( The Mystery Method & Roosh V's Bang ) and also as a way of developing a theory of mind, books on ettiquette and social skills, and evolutionary psychology books and apply what you learn. Keep what works. Hanging out with communities more accepting of odd or rude behavior helps. Stay away from testosterone drenched ones unless you're good at, and like fighting. Personally I've found Goths, gamers and other assorted nerd groups the easiest to deal with. Despite the fact that excesive alcohol occasionally turns me into a total prick it was really helpful in developing my social skills, b…
Read on Hacker NewsRead "The Game" and then "The Mystery Method." Seriously. And I think its not too much to say that there are side benefits besides becoming less shy after reading them.
